Bassin’, Tamer Style
Let’s go over a couple of ways to use your Wave Tamer to get the most out of it. We’ve talked about how boat speed affects your presentations, let’s slow down your boat and see what happens. By simply deploying your Wave Tamer from the bow of your boat and letting it out about 10 feet, you can use 2 very effective techniques.
The first is your boat will now drift at a near perfect, sideways drift and that’s because most boats want to drift bow-down-wind in a strong wind. Since the Wave Tamer is the only drift bag that floats, it will align the bow to straighten out this problem. And you don’t have to worry about your bag sinking into the depths and pulling your bow down with it.
The second is by using your electric trolling motor, you can guide the bow into the wind. This will slow your boat even more as the wind won’t be able to push your boat or your patience.
By using a Wave Tamer 60, this technique will easily slow an 18’ boat about 50% in a strong wind.
Slowing your boat not only gives you better contact and control of your bait, but it keeps you on top of the fish longer. If you could get another 10 or 12 steady casts into a weed bed, on a rock pile, or a prime point before you drift by, would it be worth it? You bet!
There are other articles here that will show you how to use your Wave Tamers for trolling, stabilizing in current, as second anchors, and more. I have personally fished all over the country with some of the best fishermen in the world and all of them utilize a drift bag when conditions demand it. No other drift bag on the market does a better job of slowing, positioning and stabilizing a boat than a Wave Tamer, you’ll agree.
